FDM 3D Printing in Sri Lanka
Tough, functional 3D prints in engineering-grade thermoplastics, delivered island-wide.
Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) is the workhorse of 3D printing — it melts thermoplastic filament and builds parts layer by layer. It's the best choice when you need strength, larger sizes and cost efficiency rather than ultra-fine surface detail.
Print Aura LK offers professional FDM printing across Sri Lanka in a full range of materials, tuned for functional prototypes, spare parts, enclosures and structural components.
Why choose this service
Materials
PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU and ASA to match strength, flexibility and outdoor needs.
Large build volume
Big parts printed in one piece, or split and bonded for oversized models.
Cost-effective
The most economical option for larger and functional prints.
Fast turnaround
Most FDM jobs complete within 24–72 hours.
What it's good for
- Engineering prototypes and functional parts
- Brackets, mounts and enclosures
- Drone frames and RC parts
- Jigs and fixtures
- Large display and cosplay pieces
How FDM printing works
An FDM printer feeds a spool of thermoplastic filament through a heated nozzle, melting it and drawing your part one thin layer at a time — typically 0.1 to 0.3 mm per layer. Once a layer cools and solidifies, the next is laid on top, until the full object stands on the build plate.
Because parts are built hollow with an internal lattice (called infill), you get excellent strength-to-weight at low cost: a part that looks solid may use only 15–25% of the material a solid piece would. For load-bearing parts we increase wall count and infill; for display pieces we keep them light and economical. We handle all of this in slicing — you just send the model and tell us what the part needs to do.
Which FDM material is right for your part?
Material choice matters more than any print setting. Here's how we decide, honestly:
- PLA — the default for prototypes, models and indoor parts. Easiest to print, crisp detail, lowest cost. Weakness: softens around 60 °C, so avoid hot cars and outdoor sun.
- PETG — our go-to for functional parts. Tougher than PLA, slightly flexible, handles moisture and heat better. Great for brackets, enclosures and outdoor fittings.
- ABS — the classic engineering plastic. Heat-resistant, machinable and paintable; suited to automotive-adjacent and mechanical parts.
- TPU — flexible, rubber-like prints: gaskets, grips, phone cases, wheels and vibration dampers.
- ASA — like ABS but UV-stable. The right answer for anything living outdoors in Sri Lankan sun.
FDM printing prices in Sri Lanka
FDM is the most economical way to 3D print. Small parts (keychains, clips, small brackets) start around LKR 350–1,000. Medium parts such as phone stands, enclosures and decorative pieces typically run LKR 800–3,000, and large functional parts LKR 2,000–8,000 depending on weight, material and print time. Repeat quantities cost less per piece.
Every quote is free and itemised — send your STL, OBJ, STEP or 3MF file on WhatsApp (+94 70 494 9070) or through our quote form and you'll have a price within 24 hours, usually much faster. Printing normally completes within 24–72 hours, followed by island-wide courier delivery in 1–3 working days.
Frequently asked questions
Which FDM material should I choose?
PLA for easy, detailed general prints; PETG for strength plus chemical and moisture resistance; ABS for heat resistance and toughness; TPU for flexible, rubber-like parts; ASA for UV-stable outdoor use. Not sure? Tell us the use case and we'll recommend one.
How strong are FDM 3D printed parts?
Very strong for most real-world uses. With the right material and infill, FDM parts handle functional loads, brackets and enclosures well. We tune wall count and infill to your part's job.
What's the largest part you can FDM print?
We print large single pieces and can split-and-bond bigger models. Send your dimensions on WhatsApp and we'll confirm the best approach.
